Sparks rejoins the Nevada League of Cities & Municipalities

May 9, 2012 , League President Steve Ross and Executive Director David Fraser attended the Sparks City Council meeting at which the Council voted to renew the City's membership with the Nevada League of Cities. The opportunity to address the Council came in response to a written invitation to return to membership, sent from the Executive Director and a personal discussion that President Steve Ross and First Vice President Debra March had in February with Sparks Mayor Gino Martini. Councilwoman March affirmed the League's commitment to serve all of its members and emphasized the need to be united in our passion to protect and advance the needs of local government.

At the meeting, Councilman Ross indicated that the League has felt Sparks' absence and emphasized the importance of working together and presenting a united front as the League moves forward. Sparks City Council member Julia Ratti indicated that she supported a return to the League because she understood that the City had "lost some traction" at the Legislature as a result of not being involved in the League. Councilwoman Ratti introduced a motion to renew the City's membership with the League. The motion passed on a vote of 4 to 1, with Councilman Mike Carrigan opposing.
